Position OverviewThe primary responsibility of the Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) is to provide assigned residents with personal, quality care to meet their daily need in accordance with established federal, state and facility policies. The CNA will cooperate with co‑workers and follow directions given by licensed nurses.
Essential Job FunctionsAssures residents’ privacy and dignity while providing care:
- Identify residents before providing care in accordance with their care plan
- Address residents by their name of choice when providing care
Interacts with residents in a warm, personal manner and provides a calm environment:
- Provide opportunities for the residents to talk, and listens attentively
- Warmly greet residents upon admission
- Introduce new residents to staff and other residents as appropriate
- Cue activities with residents in groups or individually
Assures the residents are clean and comfortable at all times:
- Assist the residents in feeding, dressing, grooming and toileting as necessary
- Provide baths weekly or more often as necessary
Assists residents in ambulating and transferring as necessary:
- Ambulate, transfer, provide range of motion, and apply adaptive equipment according to care plan
- Assist residents to activities and meals in a timely manner
- Assist with loading and unloading residents from vehicles as necessary
Provides nursing care for residents within scope of training and as directed by licensed nurses:
- Apply dressings and treatments and perform other duties as directed by licensed nurses
- Supervise exercise routines
- Take vital signs when needed
Provide nutrition and hydration to promote well‑being of residents:
- Provide fresh water and other fluids frequently and regularly
- Assist in preparing and serving food trays and snacks
Communicates residents’ care needs with peers and supervisors:
- Exchange/Obtain pertinent information regarding residents’ care at shift change
- Read and sign care plans regularly
- Promptly reports changes in residents’ conditions to licensed nurse
- Attend residents’ care plan meetings
- Attend and participates in stand‑up meeting
Observes and records residents’ conditions and/or any incidents or accidents:
- Record all information regarding care of residents in accordance with federal, state and facility policies
- Assist in completing incident and accident forms in accordance with federal, state, and facility policies
Assist maintaining an organized and clean area for residents and co-workers:
- Help to maintain a clean and organized room for residents
- Change bed lines weekly or more often as necessary
- Maintain clean and organized work area and equipment
- Observe all infection control policies according to federal, state, and facility policies
Assist in the admission process:
- Prepare residents’ room for admission
- Assist resident and family in completing inventory form
- Measure residents’ height and weight upon admission and a required thereafter.
- Must be sixteen (16) years of age.
- Must be Certified Nurse Aide in Kansas.
- Must be 18 years of age to operate or assist in the operation of most power‑driven hoists – this includes those designed to lift and move patients.
Medium Work – Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly.
