About The Position
The County of Riverside - Riverside University Health System (RUHS) - Medical Center, located in Moreno Valley, is recruiting an experienced Registered Nurse (RN) for the Pediatrics Acute Unit.
Requirements for the Pediatrics Acute Unit
- Current and valid Registered Nurse license issued by the State of California
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- At least 1 year of experience as a Registered Nurse in a Pediatrics Acute Unit
Work Schedule
3/12-hour night shifts per week, 7:00 p.m. – 7:30 a.m., every other weekend
Essential Duties
- Assess, plan, organize, and provide nursing care to assigned patients in accordance with physician instructions; make preliminary observations of patients and prepare patients for medical treatment.
- Assist physicians in administering treatments and in performing medical examinations, diagnostic tests and surgical operations.
- Administer prescribed treatments and medications; chart treatment and report significant changes in condition and progress.
- Counsel and advise patients, families, and significant others regarding medical problems and healthcare methods.
- Prepare and maintain concise records; instruct patients in carrying out physician’s orders; transcribe orders to working records.
- Provide orientation and training to new staff, residents, medical students, and nursing students.
- Participate in quality assurance reviews; act as a team leader or relief charge nurse.
- Assign and monitor the work of subordinate nursing personnel; participate in committee activities; identify staff training needs.
- Triage patients by reviewing admission charts and integrating patients into the appropriate assignment or clinic flow.
- Coordinate and monitor patients through hospitalization with physicians, primary care nurses, and third-party payors to maintain quality care and fiscal responsibility.
- Review post-hospital care plans with patients/families and follow the plan through discharge.
Minimum Qualifications
Registered Nurse II - MC/CHC
Education: Completion of education required to obtain a valid nursing license in California. A bachelor’s degree in nursing or a health-related field may be required for some positions.
Experience: Equivalent to one year of full-time RN experience in an acute care hospital, clinic outpatient setting, or healthcare agency program. Interim Permit Nurse experience may count toward the requirement. Evaluations and references must show proficiency in nursing practice.
Knowledge and Abilities: Knowledge of nursing principles and procedures, medical terminology, patient care routines, medical instruments and equipment, medication administration, and applicable laws and regulations. Ability to plan and organize nursing care, maintain records, work effectively with physicians and staff, and assist in instruction of entry-level nurses and ancillary personnel.
Registered Nurse III - MC/CHC
Education: Same as RN II. A bachelor’s degree or higher in nursing may be required for some positions.
Experience: Three years of full-time RN experience in an acute care facility or community health setting. A bachelor’s degree or national certification may substitute for part of the experience. A master’s degree may substitute for two years of experience.
Knowledge and Abilities: Similar to RN II with additional emphasis on leadership, discharge planning, and collaboration. Ability to secure cooperation of staff, keep abreast of nursing developments, and evaluate hospital admissions.
Other Requirements
- License to practice as a Registered Nurse in California (current and valid)
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certificate
- Possession of a valid California Driver’s License may be required
