Overview
The Neonatal Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) at Dignity Health Mercy San Juan Medical Center serves as the clinical leader for our Level 3 NICU. The unit features sixteen new private rooms and eight 3‑bed pods, with a 24/7 sleep chair for parents and state‑of‑the‑art equipment such as Giraffe Omni beds and Babylog VN500 vents. The CNS coordinates clinical activities, mentors nurses, and implements evidence‑based practice to provide high‑quality care for infants with birth weights as low as 450 grams.
PositionSummary
The CNS is expected to role model critical thinking, nursing judgment, communication and teamwork, and to provide high‑quality, cost‑effective neonatal care. The CNS coordinates and guides clinical activities and projects, collaborates with the department manager, and serves as a partner in leading clinical practice. This role involves leading practice change, educational mentorship, and consultation within the neonatal focus area.
Qualifications- Master’s degree in Nursing required
- Current California Registered Nurse (RN) license required
- Current California Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) certification, neonatal specialty required
- Five (5) years of clinical experience as an RN in a Level III NICU required
- Demonstrated advanced practice nurse leadership, communication, collaboration, mentoring, and change leadership
- Evidence‑based practice implementation, safety initiatives, QA methodologies
- Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), Basic Life Support (BLS) AHA certification required
- Current RNC certification preferred
- Two (2) years of experience as a NICU CNS preferred
Mercy San Juan Medical Center is a 384‑bed not‑for‑profit Level 2 Trauma Center located in Carmichael, California. The facility serves north Sacramento and south Placer counties and offers comprehensive acute and specialty services. The center is a Comprehensive Stroke Center, a Spine Center of Excellence, and has earned Perinatal Care Certificate of Excellence.
Pay Range$64.64 - $83.51 /hour
