The Division of Hematology and Oncology at UCI School of Medicine, founded in 1978, has grown into a thriving organization with a nationally recognized reputation for training outstanding physicians, innovating in cancer diagnosis and treatment, and caring for a broad spectrum of hematologic conditions.

Your Role on the Team

The Physician Assistant in the Department of Medicine, Hematology/Oncology Division will provide independent, advanced nursing care under the supervision of Medical Director(s) and the APP Supervisor. Responsibilities include comprehensive patient care in the inpatient setting at UCI Medical Center Douglas Hospital, multidisciplinary care coordination, treatment, education, monitoring, and communication with patients and referring physicians.

Responsibilities
  • Perform functions appropriate to scope of practice, including management of chronic stable medical conditions, routine care, acute or critical care, and medical and surgical procedures per approved standardized protocol.
  • Hold privileges unique to each PA; do not assume all possible privileges.
  • Provide patient care across all age groups and in all health‑licensed settings and affiliates permissible by educational preparation.
  • Maintain standards of care for the specified patient population and demonstrate evidence‑based self‑direction and accountability at all Health locations and affiliates.
  • Be credentialed and privileged through the Medical Staff to practice in the clinical role; credentialing and approval of privileges must be completed prior to the first working day.
  • Be accountable to, evaluated by, and receive feedback from supervising/collaborating physician(s), physician designee(s) in the same specialty, or the Administrative Manager.
Qualifications and Required Licenses
  • Current, active, unrestricted California Registered license.
  • Current, active, unrestricted California Physician Assistant license.
  • Current, active, unrestricted Furnishing license and DEA registration.
  • Active National Provider Identifier (NPI).
  • National board certification as Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AGACNP‑BC or ACNPC‑AG).
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications.
  • Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) Certification (ACONP) and/or ONS Chemotherapy Certification, required within 3 months of hire.
  • At least 2 years of experience in hematology/oncology and inpatient or acute care.
  • Preferred:
    Previous experience as a Physician Assistant in Hematology/Oncology; experience with early‑phase clinical trials and co‑investigator roles.
  • Ability to obtain UCIMC Allied Health Professional Privileges prior to hire.
