About the OrganizationFounded in 1911, the St. Louis Society for the Blind and Visually Impaired (SLSBVI) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization serving the needs of adults with vision loss. SLSBVI’s programs include low vision assessment, occupational therapy, orientation and mobility instruction, vision aids, assistive technology training, transportation services, peer and support groups, counseling services, and recreational activities.

Role OverviewThe Grant Writer coordinates foundation, corporate and other funding requests for SLSBVI. The position works closely with the agency’s program and finance staff members to research, prepare and submit proposals in support of SLSBVI’s operating and capital funding needs. As grants are received, the Grant Writer coordinates donor acknowledgments, grant reports and stewardship requirements.

Requirements
SLSBVI seeks a fund development professional with experience in grant writing and grants management. A bachelor’s degree is required with a minimum of three years of nonprofit grant writing experience, inclusive of prospect research and strategy development, narrative and budget preparation, and reporting. The position also requires a high level of proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, experience working with donor information systems, and exceptional skills in writing, editing, project management and attention to detail.
Job Location and Work HoursThis is a contract, on-site position working 20 hours per week at the SLSBVI offices in Brentwood, Missouri, with opportunity to work remotely as agreed upon with the Director of Development. Standard work hours are Monday through Friday.
The most significant duties of the position are included, but this does not exclude occasional work assignments related to/resulting from the principle accountabilities of the role.
Job RelationshipsPosition Reports to the Director of Development and will also work closely with the President and C.E.O., Director of Adult Programs, Accountant and other program staff.
