Community-Focused Independent Living Advocate
Job Type: Full-Time – Monday – Friday – Day Shift
Southwest Louisiana Independence Center (SLIC) is expanding our impact and is currently seeking a social, outgoing, and proactive Independent Living Specialist for our Lafayette office. This essential role focuses on empowering individuals with disabilities to achieve self‑sufficiency and remain active in their community through specialized advocacy and support programs. - Field Specialist for Veteran Direct Care Program (VDC):
Be the face of the program in the community assisting approved veterans for the program to sign up employees and assist the veteran to become an employer. - Program Coordination:
Facilitate core SLIC initiatives including the Durable Medical Equipment (DME) Loaner Closet, the Hearing Aid Program, and the Telecommunications Program. - Regional Outreach:
Execute community outreach strategies throughout Region IV to promote SLIC services and advocate for disability rights. - Resource Navigation:
Identify and bridge gaps for consumers by connecting them with critical resources from community agencies and local organizations. - Team
Collaboration:
Partner with the broader IL Specialist team to provide seamless, comprehensive support across all regional programs. - Professional Documentation:
Maintain precise, timely records of consumer progress and service delivery outcomes.
- Education:
High School Diploma or equivalent required. - Must be 18 years of age or older and able to pass a comprehensive Criminal Background Check.
- Valid Driver’s License and active auto insurance are required for local travel.
- Preferred Background:
Familiarity with Disability Rights and the Independent Living Philosophy. - Strong communication skills and a genuine passion for mission‑driven community service.
- Starting Pay: $14.00 per hour (Based on experience)
