DEFINITION
Under general direction, plans, organizes, reviews, implements, and evaluates a comprehensive communications, marketing, and community relations program for the District; identifies and utilizes appropriate methods for reaching the District’s varied constituents including traditional media, social media, and through outreach to community leaders, public officials, service groups, employees, and residents; represents the District in media and community relations appearances; coordinates and executes public information programs to raise awareness and provide education about vector control and vector related public health concerns;
provides professional assistance to the Communications Manager, General Manager, and other management and District staff in areas of expertise; and performs other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Receives general direction from the Communications Manager. Exercises technical and functional direction over and provides training to assigned staff.
CLASS CHARACTERISTICS
This journey-level classification is responsible for planning, organizing, reviewing, and evaluating the operations and activities of the district’s communications, marketing, and community relations programs. Incumbents are responsible for performing diverse, specialized, and complex work involving significant accountability and decision-making responsibilities, which include program evaluations and recommendation and implementation of policies, procedures, goals, objectives, priorities, and standards related to the district’s public information program.
Incumbents serve as a professional-level resource for organizational, managerial, and operational analyses and studies.

Plans, schedules, and participates in public events such as fairs, exhibits, and attractions which profile and promote public awareness of the district’s mission, activities, and functions; coordinates all aspects of event logistics, including venue selection, permits, catering, and audiovisual requirements.
Assists with the development of strategies to organize events to deliver accurate and effective information District-wide and to targeted groups; designs and produces promotional materials to effectively market District events; collaborates with others to create an integrated outreach approach and ensure seamless event execution; evaluates outreach barriers, challenges, and the efficacy of outreach strategies.
Establishes and maintains strong relationships with local media outlets, journalists, and influencers; responds to media as needed to coordinate the dissemination of important and general information related to District activities and vector-related public health concerns; understands and applies professional standards and ethics when communicating with the public, governmental officials, and members of the media.
Assists with drafting and distributing press releases, media advisories, and other relevant materials to garner positive media coverage; and coordinates and manages press conferences, interviews, and media appearances.
Plans, schedules, and participates in special community and media events such as fairs, exhibits, and attractions which profile and promote public awareness of the District’s mission, activities, and functions; assists with the development of outreach strategies to deliver accurate and effective information District-wide and to targeted groups; collaborates with Communications Specialists to create an integrated outreach approach; provides input to the Communications manager on outreach barriers, challenges, and the efficacy of outreach strategies.
Collaborates with the Public Information Coordinator to monitor content on the district’s social media sites; engages with District constituents through social media platforms; maintains and provides content updates for the district’s website;…
