Surface Finish/Sandblast Operator Job Summary
The Aerospace Tumble Deburr, Degrease, and Grit Blast Technician is responsible for finishing precision aerospace components to meet strict industry, customer, and regulatory standards. This role ensures parts are properly deburred, cleaned, and surface‑prepared prior to coating, inspection, or assembly. The technician must maintain compliance with aerospace quality systems such as AS9100 and customer‑specific specifications.
Key Responsibilities- Operate tumble deburring equipment to remove sharp edges, burrs, and surface imperfections from machined aerospace components.
- Perform solvent and aqueous degreasing processes to remove oils, coolants, and contaminants.
- Operate grit blasting equipment to prepare surfaces for coating, bonding, or further processing.
- Select proper media (ceramic, plastic, aluminum oxide, glass bead, etc.) based on material and specification requirements.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, process sheets, and work instructions.
- Perform visual and dimensional inspections using calipers, micrometers, and gauges.
- Maintain traceability and proper documentation in accordance with aerospace quality standards.
- Monitor equipment performance and report maintenance issues.
- Follow all environmental, health, and safety regulations, including proper handling of chemicals and PPE usage.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area in accordance with 5S standards.
- Knowledge of various metals (aluminum, stainless steel, titanium, Inconel).
- Ability to read blueprints and technical drawings.
- Familiarity with surface finish requirements and inspection techniques.
- Strong attention to detail and quality focus.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- Ability to stand for extended periods.
- Lift up to 50 lbs.
- Work in environments with noise, dust, and chemical exposure (with proper PPE).
- Manual dexterity for handling small precision parts.
- Manufacturing/shop environment.
- Exposure to blasting media, cleaning solvents, and mechanical equipment.
- Compliance with OSHA and aerospace safety standards required.
