Overview

The Airframe Assembly Inspector III conducts a variety of inspection tasks, ranging from repetitive to non-repetitive production assembly operations, while analyzing processes and recommending improvements. Responsibilities include distributing activities and goals, coordinating and guiding technical support teams, and supporting new inspectors. Additionally, the role involves assisting in process analysis to enhance overall efficiency and quality.

Responsibilities

This person will perform a variety of inspection tasks on structural assemblies and subassemblies, ranging from repetitive to non-repetitive operations. Responsibilities include working from diagrams and drawings, verifying initial layouts, and using hand tools to ensure conformity to specifications. Conducts continuity checks on in-process and finished work, performs quality inspections on the production line per specifications, and follows FAA-approved procedures, OEM technical data, and work package instructions.

Inspects completed work to identify rework needs, ensuring all repairs meet prescribed standards and tolerances before final sign-off. Completes documentation in compliance with internal quality processes and FAA guidelines.

Additional duties include reviewing assembly work for airworthiness certification, observing and auditing the airframe assembly team during bonds, taking pictures, tracking time, and ensuring real-time quality checks. The role requires a proactive approach to addressing inspection needs within Airframe Assembly.

  • Performs a variety of tasks ranging from repetitive to non-repetitive production assembly inspection operations on structural assemblies and subassemblies
  • Works from diagrams and drawings, confirms initial layouts, and uses hand tools to check conformity to specification
  • Makes continuity checks on work in process and finished work
  • Conducts quality inspections on processing line in accordance with quality specifications
  • Follows approved inspection procedures for component or aircraft structures, consulting internal procedures that have been FAA approved, original equipment manufacturers (OEM’s) technical data, and work package instructions
  • Inspects completed work to identify any needed rework before signing off; ensures that repaired components meet prescribed standards and tolerances
  • Completes work package documentation as required by internal quality process and FAA guidelines
  • Review assembly work for final/in progress inspection and certification of airworthiness
  • Observe the airframe assembly team during bonds, keep time, take pictures, and audit the bond in real-time
  • Take initiative and be proactive about inspection needs within Airframe Assembly
Required
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in aircraft assembly, mechanical assembly, and/or aircraft structures.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with proficiency in using precision instruments and hand tools for inspections.
  • Familiarity with composite part fabrication and the ability to interpret work orders, blueprints, and specifications.
  • Solid understanding of machines and tools, including their design, operation, maintenance, and repair.
  • Proficiency in using air-powered hand tools and related equipment.
  • Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and methods to optimize manufacturing and distribution efficiency.
