Apprentice Instrument Technician

Craft instruments of the highest quality by following verbal and written procedures, and blueprints.

File, bend, braze, stamp, grind, and polish to create handheld surgical instruments. Some work requires the use of a microscope.

Learn and apply new techniques and skills to the manufacturing of the surgical instruments within standard times.

Complete each hurdle in the 5-year apprenticeship program.

Instrument Operations Team

Required

Education:

High School Diploma or equivalent.

Required Experience:

• Hand metal working experience.
• Ability to visualize shapes.
• Ability to follow verbal and written manufacturing procedures.
• At least 6 monthsof previous experience from other shops that provide surgical instruments required.

Preferred Experience:

• Previous experience as a watch maker, gunsmith, or jeweler preferable.
• Any previous experience using hand tools such as pliers, hammers, or files.

• Assessment will be required for evaluating skills.
