Job Summary:
The Formation Technician is responsible for the safe and efficient charging, monitoring, and testing of lead‑acid batteries during the formation process. This position ensures all formation cycles, electrolyte handling, equipment operation, and safety procedures are performed in compliance with company standards and regulatory requirements.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Load, connect, and disconnect batteries to formation racks and charging equipment.
- Safely handle electrolyte levels, gravity checks, and temperature readings.
- Operate formation chargers, control systems, data monitors, and recording software.
- Monitor formation cycles, verify charging parameters, and log results accurately.
- Identify abnormal battery performance, defects, or unsafe conditions, report immediately.
- Follow all lead‑safety, acid‑handling, PPE, and contamination‑control procedures.
- Replace broken connectors, leads, or rack components as needed.
- Maintain correct electrolyte handling including transfers, spills, and neutralization steps.
- Perform routine cleaning of formation racks, chargers, and surrounding areas.
- Support troubleshooting of chargers or formation equipment as directed.
- Maintain documentation, production logs, and required quality checks.
- Comply with all LOTO, electrical safety, and equipment isolation procedures.
- Strong electrical aptitude required (understanding of current, voltage, polarity, basic circuitry).
- Ability to read meters, hydrometers, and temperature devices accurately.
- Prior experience working around energized equipment, high‑current systems, or battery charging preferred.
- Ability to identify electrical abnormalities such as overheating, arcing, loose connections, or unusual battery performance.
- Experience in manufacturing, industrial production, or an electrical trade preferred.
- Ability to work safely around lead, sulfuric acid, heat, and charging equipment.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs., handle cables/connectors, and stand for long periods.
- Standing, bending, lifting, and repetitive movements.
- Ability to safely operate a forklift.
