A growing Orange County-based General Contractor is seeking an experienced Executive Controller to lead financial operations, regulatory compliance, and strategic financial planning. This executive-level role reports directly to Ownership and plays a critical part in protecting profitability, ensuring full regulatory compliance, and supporting continued growth across commercial and public works projects.
The ideal candidate brings 10+ years of construction accounting experience, deep expertise in prevailing wage and regulatory compliance, and strong technical proficiency in Sage 300 Construction & Real Estate, Quick Books, and Procore.
Key Responsibilities Financial Leadership- Oversee all accounting operations including GL, AP/AR, payroll, and monthly close
- Lead WIP reporting and percentage-of-completion revenue recognition
- Manage job cost accounting, cost-to-complete projections, and margin analysis
- Develop accurate cash flow forecasting and financial reporting dashboards
- Ensure full compliance with federal, state, and local construction regulations
- Oversee prevailing wage compliance and certified payroll reporting
- Maintain labor compliance in accordance with the Department of Labor
- Ensure payroll tax and reporting compliance with the Internal Revenue Service
- Coordinate workers’ compensation, general liability, and insurance audits
- Establish and enforce strong internal financial controls
- Support contract compliance review for public and private projects
- Oversee integration and financial workflows between Sage 300 and Procore
- Ensure accurate job cost data synchronization between accounting and project management systems
- Improve reporting processes and strengthen compliance documentation standards
- Manage banking relationships, lines of credit, and bonding capacity
- Supervise accounting staff and build scalable financial systems
- Advise Ownership on risk exposure, compliance strategy, and growth planning
- 10+ years of progressive accounting experience in the construction industry
- Prevailing wage, certified payroll, and public works compliance experience
- Advanced proficiency in Sage 300 Construction & Real Estate
- Strong Quick Books experience
- Experience with Procore project management software
- Deep understanding of job cost accounting, WIP reporting, and compliance controls
- CPA preferred
