We’re supporting our client, a leading recycling manufacturer based in St James, Missouri who are looking for an Operations Manager to join their growing team. The successful Operations Manager will have production supervisory experience, as well as experience in customer service in a fast-paced environment.
Job SummaryAs an Operations Manager, you’ll be responsible for overseeing the operations of the metals division.
Responsibilities- Retail, shipping and receiving and steel yard employees.
- Direct the activities of personnel in order to ensure excellent customer service and safe and efficient movement of goods and equipment on the premises.
- Responsible for scheduling staff to cover shifts and delegate tasks to ensure materials are prepped and ready for shipping schedule.
- Conduct employment interviews and work with HR to ensure departments are fully staffed.
- Ensure that each employee has the right training and skills for safe operation of equipment or task before starting work on that equipment or project.
- Leads team in overall safety procedures and practices in order to prevent injury to self and employees.
- Assists with HR and Safety investigations.
- Ensures production and quality KPIs are met and is the scorecard owner for the department.
- Ensures equipment repairs are reported immediately to maintenance team to minimize downtime.
- Supports QEHS Manager in rolling out processes, training and being an overall leader in safety.
- Mentor, coach, train and develop direct reports.
- Participate in weekly Level 10 and monthly safety meetings.
- Monitor and adhere to operations budget.
- Ensure that team members’ evaluations are administered and conducted in a timely manner.
- LMA-Lead, Manage and Hold Accountable team members.
- Is the subject matter expert for Ferrous and Non-Ferrous Operations.
- Develops self-managed teams.
- 5+ years knowledge of ferrous and non-ferrous metals and scrap yard management.
- 5+ years production supervisory experience and customer service experience in a fast-paced environment required.
- Excellent knowledge of operations, leadership, analytical, communication and computer skills.
- Ability to apply principles of logical thinking to a wide range of practical problems; deal with many variables and determine a specific course of action.
- Forklift, skid steer and material handler experience.
- Flexibility, willingness to give and take direction.
- Ability to direct teams and delegate responsibilities to accomplish goals.
- Maintaining a positive work environment by acting and communicating in professional manner, working cohesively with customers, clients, vendors, co-workers and management.
- Exhibit leadership behaviors, setting the example for the team.
