The Opportunity:

Hudbay Minerals Inc. is seeking a Tailings Superintendent at our Copper Mountain Mine in Princeton, BC. This position is a 5x2 , 8-hour, day shift schedule.

Copper Mountain Mine is located near the town of Princeton, British Columbia at the center of the scenic Similkameen Valley. Princeton is a community-oriented town with a diverse offering of activities, especially for those who love the outdoors. Princeton is also in close proximity to both the city of Vancouver and the Okanagan.

Summary

Reporting to Tailings and Water Systems Manager, the Tailings Superintendent is accountable for leadership of the Tailings Operations teams. This leadership ensures the teams have safe and productive supervision, as well as effective systems, methods, and scheduling to meet tailings placement targets and quality standards; resulting in the safe and efficient operation of the tailings management facility (TMF).

Responsibilities
  • Ensures work is undertaken in compliance with British Columbia mining regulations and the Mine site safety, quality, and environmental standards and procedures,
  • Ensures work is undertaken in accordance with the TMF’s Operations, Maintenance and Surveillance requirements (OMS manual) and TMF design requirements,
  • Liaises with the Engineer of Record (EoR) on monitoring data, quality data and production plans,
  • Liaises with the Independent Tailings Review Board (ITRB) in scheduled meetings,
  • Coordinates with operations, maintenance and technical teams to deliver safe, reliable production,
  • Ensures compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Job Hazard Assessments (JHA) and actively participates in Health & Safety initiatives,
  • Monitors staff scheduling to ensure shift staffing requirements are met,
  • Conducts workplace and TMF inspections on a regular basis,
  • Identifies, investigates, develops mitigation options, and documents potential dam safety as well as health, safety, and environmental concerns,
  • Develop and implement methods to meet dam construction activities, work schedules and coordinates work activities with other departments,
