The University’s Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center (CFCCC) houses the Stern Center for Cancer Clinical Trials and Research, a hub for multidisciplinary clinical research. The Assistant Director supports the Center’s operations by overseeing fiscal management of clinical trials, contracts, and grants.
- Independently manage all financials, contracts, and amendments for a large portfolio of cancer‑related clinical trials.
- Lead a team that on‑boards new clinical research coordinators, develops investigator‑initiated trial budgets, activates new trials, and maintains post‑award finances.
- Serve as primary liaison to investigators and research staff for financial study resource requirements and training.
- Develop, implement, and maintain policies and SOPs for contractual negotiation, workflow, and oversight.
- Prepare, administer, and control budget resources; review budget requests and financial plans; monitor adherence to approved budgets.
- Provide guidance to subordinates and ensure goals are met on schedule through the application of operational policies.
- Advanced verbal and written communication skills with the ability to present concise, logical, and transparent analytical reports.
- Excellent interpersonal and client‑service skills; ability to work with diverse populations across all organizational levels.
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills in a high‑volume environment.
- Knowledge of internal control practices and their impact on protecting university resources.
- Experience with financial and resource planning in a multidisciplinary, matrixed work environment.
- Advanced degree in a related field or equivalent experience; 7‑9 years of accounting and financial management experience, specifically with contracts and grants for clinical trials.
- Preferred:
Knowledge of UC contracts and grant accounting principles, experience in oncology trial finance, and familiarity with the Cancer Center Support Grant guidelines.
- Advanced knowledge of University of California contracts and grants accounting and management principles.
- Experience managing finances for oncology‑specific trials.
- Professional certification in finance or accounting.
May require after‑hours and weekend work on deadline‑driven projects.
