Overview

UC Riverside's Auxiliary Facilities Services is recruiting for the Lead Custodian. The full salary range for the Lead Custodian is $25.00 - $28.89 per hour. We base salary offers on a variety of considerations, such as education, licensure and certifications, experience, and other business and organizational needs. This recruitment may be used to fill multiple positions with varying schedules. Positions may include shifts scheduled across all seven days of the week and throughout the day.

Specific schedules will be discussed at the time of interview. The Lead Custodian leads, guides and performs a variety of custodial/housekeeping tasks to care, maintain, disinfect, sanitize, and preserve campus facilities. May work independently or as part of a team in assigned work areas. Oversees critical day-to-day operations in supervisor's absence; acts as a subject matter expert and provides leadership to custodial/housekeeping staff who perform such tasks.

Maintains a positive attitude and communicates effectively with colleagues, supervisors, staff, faculty and students.

Required to hold valid driver's license, have a driving record that is in accordance with local policies/procedures, and/or enroll in the California Employer Pull Notice Program. Applicants must have current work authorization when accepting a UCR staff position. Currently, we are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa for staff. As a University employee, you will be required to comply with all applicable University policies and/or collective bargaining agreements, as may be amended from time to time.

Responsibilities
  • Lead, guide and perform a variety of custodial/housekeeping tasks to care for, maintain, disinfect, sanitize, and preserve campus facilities, including conference rooms, elevators, stairwells, exteriors, and other areas.
  • Clean, dust, strip, wax, sweep, mop, polish, disinfect, sanitize, vacuum, replenish restrooms, and remove refuse/recycling.
  • Work independently or as part of a team in assigned work areas.
  • Oversee critical day-to-day operations in supervisor's absence; act as a subject matter expert and provide leadership to custodial/housekeeping staff.
  • Maintain a positive attitude and communicate effectively with colleagues, supervisors, staff, faculty and students.
Qualifications Educational Requirements
  • High School Diploma
Experience Requirements
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in custodial/housekeeping operations with an emphasis in floor care; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Experience in safe use of a wide variety of equipment and machinery common to custodial services (e.g., stripping/buffing machines, vacuums, steam pressure washers, wet/dry shop vacuums, carpet extractors, floor cleaning machines, squeegees, brushes).
  • Experience in safe use of cleaning chemicals, their interactions, danger signs and disposal methods.
  • Experience in proper procedures for cleaning and maintaining a variety of floor surfaces (resilient tile, carpet, terrazzo).
  • One (1) year of experience leading or supervising custodial/housekeeping staff and operations.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience prioritizing work orders, routine work, and emergency requests; ability to select proper materials and equipment to complete work safely and efficiently.
  • Experience working with a diverse student, staff, faculty and visitor population and providing exemplary customer service.
  • Basic knowledge in safe and proper procedures when hazardous materials are suspected; ability to read and understand MSDS; knowledge of related regulations (e.g., SB-198 IIPP).
  • Knowledge of UC policies and ability to use desktop computers, laptops, tablets, and MS Office programs.
Minimum Requirements
  • Ability to read, write and communicate effectively in English; follow oral and written instructions.
