Job Description and Duties

Under general direction, perform a variety of skilled work in the operation, maintenance and repair of boiler, heating, air conditioning, ventilating, lighting, power, water, water treatment, and other mechanical systems normally found in a State correctional facility in the Department of Corrections or Department of the Youth Authority. Maintain order and supervise the conduct of inmates, wards, residents, or patients and protect and maintain the safety of persons and property.

May instruct or lead inmates, wards, patients, or resident workers; may instruct or lead other engineers; and perform other related work.

• Operate, maintain and repair mechanical systems (boiler, heating, HVAC, ventilating, lighting, power, water, water treatment, etc.) in a correctional facility.
• Maintain order and supervise conduct of inmates, wards, residents, or patients.
• Protect and maintain the safety of persons and property.
• Instruct or lead inmates, wards, patients, or resident workers.
• Instruct or lead other engineers.
• Perform any other duties as required.

KVSP is a Level IV facility consisting of four semi‑autonomous 180‑bed units and two stand‑alone Administrative Segregation Units, all surrounded by a lethal electrified perimeter fence. The facility is open 24 hours/7 days a week, and all positions are office centered. You will come in contact with incarcerated persons. The facility also includes a Level I Minimum Support Facility on 600 acres.

New CDCR candidates are required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan fingerprinting and tuberculosis testing prior to appointment, followed by annual testing thereafter.
