Temporary in El Portal, CA - $19.50 / hr

The Yosemite Bike Share Attendant plays a pivotal role in facilitating the operations of the bike sharing program within Yosemite National Park. This position is responsible for ensuring the functioning of the bike share program, enhancing visitor experiences, and promoting this sustainable transportation option.

Collaboration with Yosemite Conservancy and National Park Service staff and volunteers, as well as other stakeholders on the program is essential, and we highly value their contributions of ideas and insights for program improvement.

What

You’ll Do

The Yosemite Bike Share launched in 2018 to promote and provide sustainable transportation within Yosemite Valley in Yosemite National Park. Key responsibilities for the Bike Share Attendant include:

  • Monitor, locate, retrieve, and track a fleet of approximately 70 bikes throughout Yosemite Valley
  • Assemble newly purchased bikes and install bike accessories as needed.
  • Redistribute bikes to ensure availability at designated bike hub locations
  • Maintain records of bike parts and conditions
  • Provide friendly, solution-oriented customer service to visitors
  • Troubleshoot technical issues related to the bike share app, locks, and internet connectivity
  • Perform routine bike inspections, basic repairs, and preventative maintenance
  • Clean and organize bike storage area(s)
  • Identify, document, and report maintenance or safety concerns
  • Respond to visitor questions, concerns, and access issues
  • Collaborate regularly with Yosemite Conservancy staff;
    National Park Service staff; volunteers;
    Concessioner and partner organizations
  • Communicate clearly about operational needs, challenges, and opportunities for improvement
  • Assist with end-of-season shutdown, including retrieving bikes from the field and preparing the full fleet for storage
  • Support special events and operational requests as needed
Who You Are / Keys to Success (the must-haves) Education
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Interest in sustainability, transportation, conservation, or national parks
  • Ability to work independently and taking initiative
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse teams and partner agencies
  • Organized, reliable, and detail-oriented
  • Ability to perform basic bicycle maintenance and minor repairs
  • Willingness to learn and use new technology
  • Experience using mobile apps and basic office software
  • Ability to troubleshot and resolve problems as they arise
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
  • Ability to lift and move bikes and equipment (~30 lbs.)

Working Conditions
  • Frequent driving within Yosemite Valley
  • Regular lifting, pushing, and moving bicycles
  • Walking and standing for extended periods on uneven terrain
  • Bending, crouching, and working outdoors in variable weather
  • Weekend and occasional evening shifts required
