Entry‑level Custodian II responsible for maintaining sanitary conditions in healthcare environments within the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. This role supports training and mentorship of incarcerated individuals, contributing to reduced recidivism and improved public safety.
Key Responsibilities- Maintain cleanliness and hygiene of all facility areas, including medical and custodial spaces.
- Follow health and safety protocols in coordination with medical and custody staff.
- Model appropriate workplace behavior and coach incarcerated individuals.
- Assist with inventory control, record keeping, and use of custodial equipment.
- Perform supervised duties while ensuring personal safety and compliance with institutional policies.
- Participate in training and orientation programs upon hire.
- Physical ability to maintain sufficient strength, agility, and endurance for the role.
- Prepared to wear a personal alarm and carry a whistle while on duty.
- Eligibility to work in a high‑security setting with variable shift times.
- Pass live scan, TB test, and physical examination if required.
- Subject to drug testing as per state regulations.
- Custodial or janitorial experience, especially in healthcare or bio‑hazard settings.
- Experience with janitorial equipment and/or supervisory responsibility.
- Inventory control and record‑keeping skills.
- Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and overtime.
- Paid leave: at least 156 hours in first year.
