Duties- Performs custodial/janitorial duties
- Cleaning, sanitizing, emptying trash, and restocking public restrooms
- Cleaning, vacuuming, dusting, emptying trash and recyclables
- Scrubs, strips, waxes and polishes floors using heavy (industrial type) power scrubber and buffer
- Washes walls using powered wall washing machines and/or by hand
- Vacuums/cleans rugs, carpets, etc. using heavy vacuum cleaner
- Adjusts, cleans, and oils these machines and changes brushes, rollers, buffers, and other attachments
- Moves heavy furniture, supplies, and equipment
- Occasionally works on ladders and scaffolds to change light bulbs, wash walls, etc.
- Keeps shop areas clean and in order
- Sweeps and wet mops floor and removes various liquid and solid wastes, spills, etc.
- Operates light duty motor vehicles weighing up to 10,000 pounds (such as pick‑up trucks, flatbed trucks, 5‑yard dump trucks, etc.) to transport personnel, material, or equipment to work site located in the park
Moderately heavy physical effort is required when using ladder and scaffolds to clean walls, ceilings, windows, ceilings fixtures; operating powered equipment; removing cans of or other containers of trash; and occasionally lifts objects weighing over 50 pounds.
Working ConditionsUsually works indoors in areas, which normally have adequate heat, light, and ventilation. Is exposed to vibration from heavy equipment and to skin irritations from strong cleaning solutions used in stripping floors. Care is required to avoid serious injuries when working on ladders and scaffolds and when using heavy powered equipment. Occasionally works outdoors in possible inclement weather conditions and/or extreme temperatures.
Requirements- U.S. Citizenship required
- Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication
- Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males
- Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program
- You will be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties; a valid driver's license is required. You will be required to submit a Motor Vehicle Operator's License and Driving Record. You must also submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that disclose all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you
- Travel, transportation & relocation expenses will not be paid. Relocation expenses will be the employee's responsibility
- You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided
- You may be required to work on‑call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime and shift work
- Applicants must be at least 18 years old or at least 16 years old and: have graduated from high school or been awarded a certificate equivalent to graduating from high school; or have completed a formal vocational training program; or have received a statement from school authorities agreeing with their preference for employment rather than continuing their education; or be currently enrolled in a secondary school and either work only during school vacation periods or work part‑time during the school year under a formal student employment program
