The Redding Driver Safety Office is seeking a fair-minded, reliable, and detail-oriented Driver Safety Hearing Officer (DSHO) who is passionate about public service and committed to ensuring safety on California roadways.
Under the direction of a Driver Safety Manager I, the Driver Safety Hearing Officer conducts administrative hearings involving complex and sensitive matters related to driving privileges. This role requires sound judgment, strong analytical skills, and the ability to render timely, well-supported decisions in accordance with statutes, case law, and DMV policies.
Key ResponsibilitiesUnder the direction of a Driver Safety Manager I, the Driver Safety Hearing Officer:
- Conducts administrative hearings involving complex issues such as:
Physical and Mental Conditions, Admin Per Se (APS), Negligent Operator, Financial Responsibility, Fraud, and Special Certificates - Writes legal reports detailing case issues, findings, and decisions.
- Reviews and verifies evidence to make findings of fact and conclusions in accordance with statute, case law, and DMV policies.
- Renders immediate decisions based on hearing proceedings and issues written orders and notices of decision.
- Analyzes administrative, medical, and legal documents for accuracy.
- Maintains communication with law enforcement, medical professionals, courts, attorneys, and other stakeholders.
