Job SummaryThe Field Service Technician is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining large format printers. The role involves providing technical support to customers, performing routine maintenance, and delivering excellent customer service both remotely and on-site. The technician manages the repair process from start to finish, ensuring all necessary paperwork is completed and parts are accurately stocked and tracked. Travel to customer sites is required, including occasional out‑of‑town trips.
The technician collaborates with other team members to deliver exceptional service and support.
- Strong understanding of computer hardware, Windows operating systems, and I/O interfacing in Windows environments
- Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, and electronic systems related to large format printer repairs
- Experience with diagnostic tools and equipment specific to large format printers
- Familiarity with maintenance and repair procedures for large format printers
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics
- Bonus:
Computer/network troubleshooting skills for connecting devices to a network
- Diagnose and repair large format printers, ensuring all issues are resolved promptly and effectively
- Perform routine maintenance on large format printers to ensure optimal performance and prevent breakdowns
- Provide excellent customer service over the phone and face‑to‑face, communicating technical information to non‑technical audiences
- Assume responsibility for quality of workmanship and take necessary precautions to prevent service disruption
- Ensure machines are wiped down after setup, and used parts and materials are properly disposed of and accounted for
- Maintain accurate records of service activities, including repairs, maintenance, and customer interactions
- Estimate service costs if a quote is needed from the customer
- Collaborate with other team members to ensure efficient service delivery and customer satisfaction
- Order and manage parts inventory to ensure necessary components are available for repairs and maintenance
- Identify and escalate issues requiring additional support to manufacturers and/or Service Manager as required
- Stay up‑to‑date with the latest industry trends, technologies, and best practices related to large format printer service
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations and company policies
- Participate in training and development activities to enhance skills and knowledge
- Perform other tasks as assigned or required by the Service Manager
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional education or certification in a related field is a plus
- Strong problem‑solving skills and ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously without management involvement
- Excellent organizational and time‑management abilities
- Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
- Strong customer service skills with the ability to communicate technical information to non‑technical audiences
- Attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds for equipment set‑up
