The Senior Loss Control Consultant is responsible for serving the San Diego/Orange County area, conducting loss control surveys and physical inspections of commercial accounts, providing underwriters with accurate documentation, identifying hazards, consulting with underwriters and other staff, conducting accident investigations, and delivering safety training and presentations.
Essential Job Functions And Responsibilities- Conduct loss control surveys/physical inspections of commercial accounts.
- Provide underwriters with an accurate description of the physical and operational details of an insured.
- Identify hazards and potential loss exposures and make recommendations to eliminate or reduce risk.
- Consult with underwriters and other staff regarding account/line-of-business acceptability, exposures, and controls pertinent to various lines of business.
- Assist underwriters and other staff relative to account operations, exposures, construction, and protection.
- Conduct accident investigation and loss analysis to identify causes.
- Employ effective sales and communication skills to achieve compliance with recommendations and provide safety and/or supervisory training to insureds.
- Conduct joint marketing presentations, in conjunction with Underwriting, Claims, and Marketing, to accounts and agents.
- Maintain expert knowledge of company/department manuals and procedures, and relevant Federal, State, and other pertinent codes and regulations applicable to Property, Liability, and Casualty lines of coverage.
- Provide technical guidance, assistance, and training to lower level positions.
- May lead the work of others (mentor, prioritize, delegate, review assignments) and may have responsibility for performance coaching of staff.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Education:
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience. - Field of Study:
Safety, Engineering, Insurance, Business or a related discipline. - Experience:
Generally, 10 or more years of related experience. - Certifications in the area of chosen expertise are a plus, including Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Fire Protection Specialist (CFPS), Associate Risk Management (ARM), Certified Safety and Health Management (CSHMS), Associate Loss Control Management (ALCM), or Occupational Health and Safety Technician (OHST).
