We are seeking an experienced Cloud Database Administrator with a background in Microsoft Azure to join our team. The role will support the maintenance and optimisation of the Smart Search databases, with a particular focus on performance tuning, scalability and data migration. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, be an efficient problem solver and have a keen interest in new technology.

Reporting directly to the Head of Infrastructure, you will be expected to work independently, producing clear documentation to support the cloud environment. You will be expected to learn on the job, while improving your overall performance based on targets set for you.

• Database Administration:
  Manage, monitor, and optimise our database systems to ensure high availability, performance, and security.
• Performance Tuning:
  Support and coach squads with query optimisation, index design, refine schemas and troubleshoot slow queries
• Cloud Migration:
  Lead and assist in the migration of databases in Azure, ensuring data integrity and minimal downtime.
• Business Continuity:
  Implement and perform regular testing of backup, recovery, and disaster recovery solutions
• Collaboration:
  
  Work closely with cross-functional teams, including developers, QA, and system architects to support the Smart Search platform.
• Documentation:
  Create and maintain comprehensive documentation related to database architecture, Dev Ops processes, and migration strategies.
• Continuous Development:
  Participate in training and development opportunities to enhance your skills and knowledge, sharing insights and best practices with the team.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Work to agreed targets.
• Participate in peer code reviews with clear explanations.
• Investigate and track down bugs, creating resolutions.
• Accurately record issues, features, and business requirements.
• Adapt to working with multiple priorities that can change regularly.
• Actively participate in team sessions such as Backlog Refinements, Sprint Reviews, Sprint Retrospectives etc.
• Contribute to all phases of the development lifecycle.

• Strong MySQL DBA experience, on-premises or in Azure
• Azure cloud DB experience (not necessarily MySQL)
• Experience in database installation, back-up, restore and maintenance
• Experience working on large-scale DB migration projects to and within Azure
• Experience with high-availability DBs, provisioning and configuring
• Ability to troubleshoot complex database issues in production environments
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills

Advantages

• Any experience with SSIS, SSRS, SSAS, Power BI would be beneficial
• Scripting experience with Bash, Power Shell, or Python for automation tasks
• Experience with Git version control
• Experience working with Agile development teams writing PHP
