Job Summary

Bobrick is seeking an Operational Technology Engineer to play a key role in the evolution of its manufacturing operations toward a fully connected, smart factory. As part of the Manufacturing Engineering s Operational Technology team, you ll help integrate shop-floor equipment, a Manufacturing Execution System (MES), and other enterprise platforms into a unified digital ecosystem to enable smarter, more efficient manufacturing across multiple sites.

You will ensure that machines, systems, and people are able to communicate digitally, so we can run smarter, faster, and with better data.

• Design, implement, and support data flows, interfaces, and analytics tools that connect manufacturing operations to corporate systems and decision-making.
• Collaborate with IT, Engineering, and Business Units, as well as outside vendors, to ensure systems are reliable, secure, and scalable.
• Contribute to Bobrick s digital transformation (MES rollout, Spec2saw workflows, AI/analytics projects).
• Support design-to-manufacturing data integration, including data pipelines for CAD/CAM/BIM tools with ERP, MES, QMS, and WMS.
• Develop and maintain data pipelines to extract product specifications, BOMs, and design attributes, and integrate them into internal systems.
• Ensure data from design through manufacturing is structured, validated, and mapped for production scheduling and execution.
• Document workflows, mappings, and standards for governance and reuse.
• Assist in developing system integrations across MES, ERP, QMS, and WMS, and maintain connectivity between shop-floor equipment and higher-level systems using industrial protocols (OPC UA, MQTT, Modbus, PackML, MTConnect).
• Configure IoT gateways and middleware to maintain secure and reliable data transfer; document integration architectures (ICDs, diagrams, configuration standards).
• Develop SQL queries, ETL pipelines, and reporting structures for MES and OT data; maintain historians/time-series databases; build real-time dashboards (Power BI, Tableau) to monitor KPIs (OEE, downtime, scrap, yield).
• Contribute to MES rollout projects, participate in Spec2saw initiatives, and support AI/ML projects by preparing datasets and embedding insights into MES/QMS workflows.
• Collaborate with IT on cybersecurity and access control standards (ISA/IEC 62443, Purdue model).
• Partner with Manufacturing Engineers and IT to capture requirements, connect equipment, and communicate data requirements across Supply Chain, Finance, and Quality.
• Research and evaluate OT/IT integration technologies and propose implementation strategies; create and maintain training materials for engineers and operators; support change management by training plant super-users.

Education and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Electrical/Controls Engineering, Industrial/Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
• 2–5 years of experience in integration, data engineering, or automation roles (internships or academic projects count).
• Experience in manufacturing, automation, or ERP/MES environments is a plus.
• Ability to interpret technical documentation, API specs, workflows, and process diagrams.
• Proficient in preparing reports, documentation, and clear communication across technical and business teams.

Technical Expertise

• Strong understanding of APIs (REST, SOAP) and data exchange methods.
• Proficient in SQL, database design, and at least one scripting language (Python, Java, or C#).
• Knowledge of industrial protocols (OPC UA, MQTT, Modbus, Profinet).
• Experience with data visualization and analytics tools (Power BI, Tableau).
• Familiarity with MES platforms (e.g., Siemens Opcenter, Rockwell FTPC, Dassault, Apriso, Plex) is desired.
• Awareness of OT cybersecurity frameworks (ISA/IEC 62443, Purdue model) is desired.
• Understanding of CAD/BIM data structures and how design data maps into ERP/MES systems is desired.
