Data Consultant

I'm representing an Energy client based in Utrecht is seeking a skilled Data Engineer Technical Consultant to support the delivery of technology-driven solutions across complex projects. This role combines hands‑on technical expertise with strong consulting and project management capabilities.

They are a rapidly growing technology company specialising in data analytics and machine learning within the energy sector. The industry is undergoing a major transformation, moving toward a more diverse energy mix and decentralised generation. This shift requires smarter, more flexible systems supported by high-quality data and advanced analytics.

Your primary responsibility is implementing proprietary software solutions within client application landscapes. The role combines technical execution with business-oriented problem solving.

You act as the technical specialist responsible for designing, developing, and testing data-driven business rules (primarily in Python) that operate on client datasets.

• Design, develop, and test business rules for data validation, estimation, detection, aggregation, and forecasting
• Work with additional data sources such as weather data and machine learning models
• Collaborate closely with functional consultants to orchestrate modular rules into scalable business flows
• Create automated test cases for designed flows
• Coach clients and implementation partners on configuration development, data migration, and scheduling
• Gather and analyse customer requirements to understand business challenges
• Co‑design solutions or proof‑of‑concepts and support commercial proposal activities
• Work on‑site, remotely, or from the office depending on project needs
• Collaborate with product teams to apply emerging cloud, analytics, and ML technologies

You are an enthusiastic and communicative professional with a strong sense of responsibility and problem‑solving mindset. You are able to translate business challenges into robust technical solutions and work independently while collaborating effectively with stakeholders.

• Minimum 2 years of experience as a consultant (10+ years for architect level)
• Experience in enterprise system implementation projects (energy or utilities experience is a plus)
• Strong ability to reason about and communicate solution designs
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field
• Strong experience with Python (including pandas)
• Familiarity with databases (SQL and No
  
  SQL)
• Understanding of security and access management
• Knowledge of web protocols and RESTful APIs
• Experience working with Unix‑based systems
• Fluent in English, written and spoken
• Experience with BDD‑style testing (e.g. Gherkin) is a plus
• Industry knowledge is beneficial but not required
• Strong customer‑oriented communication skills
• Creative problem‑solving ability
• Ability to manage scope and handle changing requirements
• Reliable, responsible, and flexible
• Willingness to travel
