Principal GIS Developer – Tek Synap, New Orleans, LA
Tek Synap is a fast‑growing high‑tech company serving federal government customers. The role supports a DOI BSEE TIMS contract and requires a public trust clearance. Responsibilities- Plan, direct and monitor the work of team members.
- Set priorities to meet user needs and define system scope.
- Devise or modify procedures to solve complex problems, write detailed specifications, and design, code, test, debug, and document GIS software solutions using Python, JavaScript, Java and ESRI tools.
- Develop and maintain spatial databases, ensuring integrity, security and performance.
- Integrate GIS with other systems using APIs and microservices.
- Perform complex spatial analysis and automate workflows with scripts.
- Facilitate stakeholder meetings to clarify business requirements.
- Contribute to sprint schedules, design solutions, and prioritize modularity and reusability.
- Develop unit and integration tests, implement exception handling, logging and security best practices.
- Participate in peer code reviews and maintain high quality standards.
- Produce documentation, provide technical support and training.
- Stay current with GIS technology and participate in project planning.
- 10+ years of application software development, including 3 years in systems analysis and 1 year as technical lead.
- Good understanding of the business function for which the application is designed.
- Proficient in HTML, Java, JavaScript, Python, CSS, SQL, No
SQL, C#, Perl or other relevant languages. - Extensive GIS development and integration experience with ESRI platforms.
- Proficiency in SQL and PL/SQL for database management.
- Must pass a DOI Background Investigation for a Public Trust Clearance.
- Advanced knowledge of ESRI GIS development for spatial and non‑spatial data.
- Experience with ArcGIS predecessors such as Arc Info.
- Proficiency in multiple programming languages, including C, C#, Python, Arc Py scripts.
- In‑depth understanding of ESRI components and plugins.
- Knowledge of the SDLC, version control (Git), REST and Web API services.
- Certifications or specialized training in relevant GIS technologies.

New Orleans, LA. - Environment:
Office with optional telework. - Schedule:
Day shift, Monday‑Friday (may require evenings/wkends). Temporary assignment through 16 June 2026. - Travel:
