Job Description and Duties

• Maintain, update, and research Caltrans District 5 and Central Region survey records using the latest department software applications, including CADD software.
• Process record requests from the public, local agencies, utility companies, and internal customers and supply requested records.
• Design, develop, and maintain geospatial databases using complex GIS methods and techniques for the Central Region and support projects for other Capital Divisions.
• Gather information to populate databases from department geospatial, project management, and asset management databases as well as other authoritative sources, handling both modern and legacy data.
• Design, develop, and maintain GIS services utilizing the Department’s Enterprise GIS system operated by the HQ GIS unit.
• Publish and create Internet‑based GIS web maps using server‑based GIS knowledge.

Eligibility may be determined by score on the Research Data Analyst II / I exam. Applicants new to state civil services must be on the state examination list.

• Ability to independently perform complex research and analysis projects involving digital spatial data, GIS techniques, and methodologies.
• Knowledge of journeyman‑level GIS techniques and methodologies to develop data, tools, and models.
• Understanding of cartographic principles as applied to GIS products and delivery.
• Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with others, with general understanding of journeyman‑level research and statistical methods.
• Strong organization, teamwork, and problem‑solving skills.
