Job OverviewBAI, a defense contractor, seeks a skilled Technical Writer with 3+ years of experience supporting defense-related engineering, test, or operations projects. The candidate will collaborate with Systems Engineers, Quality Assurance Engineers, Software Developers, and Testers at Point Mugu Naval Base in Camarillo, CA, utilizing government-defined engineering processes. This individual will play a critical role in ensuring compliance with documentation standards, cyber accreditation requirements, and interoperability with project infrastructure.

The typical annual salary range for this position is $79,775.00 USD to $ USD. Salary will be based on current qualifications, directly related experience, geographic location, and possible contractual requirements which could fall outside of this range.
Responsibilities- Author Technical Documents and Reports
- Prepare materials such as test reports, equipment manuals, appendices, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and maintenance instructions in line with DoD standards, including NIST SP 800-53 and DoDI 8510.01.
- Create and maintain document suites, including Logistics, Configuration Management (CM), Systems Engineering, Risk Management Framework (RMF) compliance artifacts, and Test Plans for U.S. and Foreign Military Sales (FMS).
- Develop and structure documentation for key milestones including SRR, PDR, CDR, and TRR, ensuring alignment with Initial and Full Operational Capability (IOC and FOC).
- Manage and Oversee Technical Baselines
- Work with engineers to maintain auditable repositories with traceability from requirements to verification and Authorization to Operate (ATO) evidence.
- Collaborate on controlled configuration documents such as Interface Control Documents (ICD), Verification Cross-Reference Matrices (VCRM), and Architecture Roadmaps.
- Conduct regular updates related to system architecture, cyber accreditation progress, and configuration control.
- Verify and Align Technical Artifacts
- Review and edit engineering documentation for adherence to project standards and government requirements.
- Manage document templates, ensuring compliance with Section 508 accessibility standards and ITAR/EAR export control requirements.
- Cybersecurity Coordination and Reporting
- Support the assembly, verification, and coordination of cybersecurity-related materials, including vulnerability assessments, RMF controls, POA&Ms, and related ATO documentation.
- Monitor and review active application components and oversee their updates and lifecycle statuses.
- Meeting and Reporting Requirements
- Facilitate and document technical discussions with stakeholders, including cross‑functional meetings for Integration & Test Master Planning (ITMP) and cyber accreditation progress reviews.
- Prepare minutes, summaries, and briefing documentation for Monthly Progress Reports (CDRL A001).
- A minimum of 3 to 10 years of experience in a technical writing role, supporting defense-related engineering, test, or operations projects
- Demonstrated ability to draft and manage a variety of technical documents, such as RMF artifacts, test process documentation, and engineering baselines
- Proven ability to thrive in multidisciplinary teams, collaborating effectively with engineers, stakeholders, and cybersecurity personnel
- Strong analytical, attention‑to‑detail, and problem‑solving skills
- Advanced expertise in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and Power Point
- Familiarity with Adobe Acrobat Pro and version control tools
- Desired Experience with Systems Engineering frameworks and software tools such as IBM Rational DOORS or similar
- Experience working with government IT environments, including platforms such as Microsoft Azure, MS Teams, and NMCI
- Familiarity with NAVAIR program directives, infrastructures, and operational requirements for stakeholders
- Knowledge of cybersecurity accreditations via the RMF process
