Website Systems Developer & Manager (7300U) - #82435 Position Overview
This is a part-time (60%) position and is on-call to address urgent website or database issues. The Website Systems Developer & Manager is responsible for maintenance of BAMPFA’s current Drupal 7 website (to be decommissioned in early 2027) and will serve over the next year as the in-house technical lead for the website redevelopment project and Postgre
SQL database build. Working closely with a Technical Project Manager and external development agency, this role ensures functionality, performance, accessibility, and data integration across new platforms.
After deployment of the new website (early 2027), this position manages the technical operations of bampfa.org and the Postgre
SQL database, including maintenance, security, updates, and integrations with Tessitura (TNEW), Collection Space, and Resource Space. The role advises on data migration from legacy systems, leads future web application development, and acts as a technical liaison with departments, campus IT, and vendors.
Website Development (Now–early 2027)
- Serve as in‑house technical lead for the website redevelopment project, collaborating with project managers, consultants, and stakeholders.
- Work with vendor to develop and implement custom Word Press themes, templates, and plugins.
- Support Postgre
SQL‑based CMS structure and data relationships. - Conduct thorough testing and quality assurance to identify and resolve bugs and performance issues.
Drupal 7 Website Management (Now–early 2027)
- Maintain and support existing Drupal 7 website during its decommissioning phase.
- Monitor performance, uptime, and security; address vulnerabilities and downtime promptly.
- Ensure disaster recovery and version control procedures are in place.
- Troubleshoot and resolve front‑end and back‑end issues.
Word Press Website Management (Early 2027 and Beyond)
- Manage and maintain the new Word Press site after launch, including updates to plugins, themes, and core.
- Implement enhancements and new features based on analytics and user feedback.
- Support integrations with Tessitura (TNEW), Collection Space, and Resource Space.
- Write and maintain SQL queries and API endpoints.
- Maintain version control practices across systems.
- Consult on ongoing data migration efforts and development of digital retail store.
Postgre
SQL Database Management (Early 2027 and Beyond)
- Maintain Postgre
SQL database, ensuring functionality of data entry, storage, and API integrations. - Serve as point of contact for backend database updates and integration support.
- Update schema, content integrity, API connections, and uptime as needed.
- Maintain data model and cross‑system mappings.
- Document system configurations, workflows, and integrations.
- Provide training and technical support to staff.
Standards and Compliance
- Ensure compliance with UC Berkeley accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1).
- Apply best practices in responsive design.
- Adhere to data privacy, information security, and accessibility policies.
- Implement and maintain security measures such as SSL and secure authentication.
- Stay informed on evolving web standards and digital governance best practices.
Content Management & SEO
- Train content editors on Word Press CMS and Postgre
SQL workflows. - Ensure consistency with design and brand guidelines.
- Optimize site structure, metadata, and content for SEO and usability.
- Implement and update analytics tools; assist with reporting.
- Collaborate with Marketing and Audience Development teams on content workflows.
- Evaluate and improve navigation, information architecture, and user experience.
- Fluency in Word Press development including custom themes, plugins, hooks, and REST API.
- Extensive Drupal and Word Press experience, including Drupal 7 maintenance.
- Strong understanding of Postgre
SQL or other relational databases. - Knowledge of entity‑relationship design and data integrity practices.
- Knowledge of PHP, MySQL, HTML, and CSS.
- Familiarity with web hosting, DNS, Git, and deployment workflows.
