The Rehabilitation Therapist will use recreational and music therapy to improve the health and quality of life for adults with developmental disabilities. The role requires the use of habilitation techniques, assessment of individual needs, development of therapeutic objectives, and collaboration with an interdisciplinary team.
Core Responsibilities- Assess individual client needs and develop habilitative/rehabilitative objectives.
- Plan and implement recreation, music, and other leisure activities to enhance motor, social, cognitive, and emotional functioning.
- Work with interdisciplinary team members to reinforce other treatment modalities.
- Re‑evaluate treatment plans regularly and adjust activities to meet evolving goals.
- Provide group recreation or music therapy sessions as needed.
- Supervise and coordinate community outings and program‑wide activities.
- Participate in meetings, conferences, and required documentation.
- Lift up to 50 pounds without assistance.
- Perform client containment, intervention, or restraint; maintain physical readiness for extended work hours and various shifts.
- Float to all work areas within the facility upon request.
- Escort clients to different areas on/off campus and respond to behavioral or medical interventions.
- Drug screening must be passed before hiring.
- Background investigation and medical clearance are required.
Regular interaction with clients and staff in a residential and training environment. May involve custodial tasks, escorting clients, monitoring for safety breaches, and supervising group therapies. Exposure to communicable diseases and other risks common to clinical settings is possible.
