Sterile Processing Instrumentation Technician
Overview
Find your calling at Mercy! The Sterile Processing Instrument Technician, under general supervision, follows robust processes in Decontamination, Processing and Sterilization by cleaning instruments and equipment, ensuring that all items are free of bioburden, inspecting, function testing and assembling instruments and equipment for High Level Disinfection or Sterilization. The Sterile Processing Technician follows the Manufacturer's Instructions for Use in Decontamination, Processing, High Level Disinfection & Sterilization, as well as Department and Hospital Processes and Policies.
The technician must be able to accurately maintain the required documentation on written logs and/or computer systems for Decontamination, Processing, High Level Disinfection or Sterilization as well as Sterile Processing Department Equipment. The technician must be able to prioritize instrumentation for processing, answer telephones and dispatch instrumentation, equipment and supplies. Performs duties in a manner consistent with Mercy’s Mission, Values, and Mercy Service Standards.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Position Details:

- Follow robust processes in Decontamination, Processing and Sterilization by cleaning instruments and equipment, ensuring items are free of bioburden, inspecting, function testing and assembling for High Level Disinfection or Sterilization.
- Comply with Manufacturer's Instructions for Use in Decontamination, Processing, High Level Disinfection & Sterilization and with Department and Hospital Processes and Policies.
- Accurately maintain required documentation on written logs and/or computer systems for Decontamination, Processing, High Level Disinfection, Sterilization, and Sterile Processing Department Equipment.
- Prioritize instrumentation for processing; answer telephones and dispatch instrumentation, equipment, and supplies.
- Perform duties in alignment with Mercy’s Mission, Values, and Mercy Service Standards.

Instrument Technician:
- Required Education
:
High School degree or GED equivalent - Preferred Experience
:
Prior healthcare related experience, basic knowledge of sterilization processes in a clinical setting - Other
:
Basic computer skills - Must be able to wear personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Must interact with staff and co-workers across a diverse range of disciplines.
- Must be able to follow directions.
- Must be able to operate equipment.
Instrument Technician II:
- Meets all requirements of both the Instrument Technician, and Instrument Technician I as well as the following requirements:
- Required Experience
:
Minimum 6 months experience in Sterile Processing or 400 hours of hands-on experience in Sterile Processing - Required Certification
: CRCST or CSPDT certification through IAHCSMM or CBSPD
