Job Description and DutiesOverview
Are you currently attending high school, college or other post-secondary training and looking for part-time employment? Do you want to help your peers achieve their educational and vocational goals? Do you want to make a difference in the lives of youth? If so, this may be the position for you.
Responsibilities
- Under the close supervision of an Employment Program Manager I and the direct guidance of an Employment Program Representative, Range B or above, as the YEOP mentor, provide services to youth designated as at-risk.
- Case manage clients through peer advising, refer clients to training, education providers, and supportive services.
- Provide educational guidance and career awareness; provide employment preparation assistance and job referrals.
- Conduct YEOP workshops and outreach; present YEOP services to local community, schools, community-based organizations (CBO), partner and employer groups to recruit clients, promote the program, and solicit support.
- Ensure all clients are registered in CalJOBS and that program services provided are recorded in CalJOBS.
- Maintain client case folders by adhering to YEOP manual guidelines.
- Represent the EDD and the YEOP at local high school and college events, career days and job fairs.
- Work up to 1,500 hours in a 12-month period; flexible scheduling during operating hours designed with educational success in mind.
- Operate 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday.
Special Requirements
- Applicants must meet YEOP eligibility criteria and be currently enrolled in high school, college, or other post-secondary education. Those with limited or no work experience are encouraged to apply.
- Must be between the ages of 15-25 and enrolled in high school, college or equivalent carrying a minimum of six semester or eight quarter units.
- Must be able to read and write at a level necessary to document activities.
- Eligible YEOP applicants must be between 15 and 25 years old and currently enrolled at an accredited college or university; copies of transcripts may be required before employment and after each semester.
- Position exists in Pasadena, CA. Local in-person workload may be required with some telework possible.
- Effective July 1, 2025, some bargaining units may be subject to salary reductions per PLP 2025; details available via CalHR.
