Job Summary:

Full-Time (40+ Hours per Week)

The Clinician is responsible for providing individual, family, and group therapy to clients and families being served. The therapist works closely with county probation, treatment team, residential staff, and other providers, consulting and collaborating on the client’s treatment progress and plan.

Desired/Minimum Qualifications and Experience

A Master’s degree in Social Work, Marriage & Family Therapy, Psychology, or Counseling
At least two years of experience providing therapy to adolescents and their families
Knowledge of Medi-Cal (EPSDT) billing and procedures required
Current registration as an AMFT, ASW, or APCC with the California Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS).
Verbal and written ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, community partners, consumers, and all levels of management
Ability to multi-task and prioritize projects and assignments effectively
Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment
Fulfillment of TB test, background check clearance, and any other mandatory Federal/State/County and agency requirements
Valid California driver’s license, proof of current automobile insurance, and a driving record acceptable to the agency’s insurance carrier

Sample Responsibilities and Duties

Provide individual, family, and group psychotherapy to youth and families through assessment, planning, and implementation of mental health services based on the needs of the youth as determined by the treatment plan

Assess for age‑specific developmental, emotional, and behavioral needs

Coordinate with the treatment team in order to best meet the treatment needs of the client

Schedule and coordinate therapy sessions

Provide crisis counseling

Communicate with County Probation and collaborative partners on issues and information to best meet the client’s needs

Observe, assess, and engage client and family in goal‑directed treatment

Assess and adhere to mandated legal and ethical guidelines which include, but are not limited to, abuse and neglect of children, elder, or dependent/disabled adults, threats of self‑harm, and “Tarasoff Reporting” regulations

Engage with families and children in a manner that respects individual, family, and ethnic dignity and cultural practices, customs, needs, and differences

Provide services consistent with the guiding principles of the agency’s philosophy of strength‑based, family‑focused, needs‑driven, and culturally competent care

Establish and maintain rapport and an effective working relationship with clients and their families while working effectively within the agency and community

Complete progress notes for each therapy session and mental health service

Complete appropriate County mental health documentation

Prepare and maintain charts in accordance with audit requirements

Attend clinical, planning, and discharge meetings

Attend weekly supervision meetings with therapy supervisor if unlicensed, in order to comply with California Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS) licensing requirements
