Overview
The Willamette Valley Cancer Institute and Research Center in Eugene, Oregon is seeking a Medical Assistant to support the Gynecologic Oncology department. The role will manage incoming calls, assist with orders and prescription refills, and provide daily support to clinical staff. Candidates with strong experience in prescription workflow standard operating procedures are encouraged to apply. This position adheres to the US Oncology Compliance Program, including the Code of Ethics and Business Standards.
Compensation and Benefits
Pay Scale: $20.00–$34.03 (actual rate based on experience, education, responsibilities, location, and performance).

Responsibilities
- Assists physicians with gynecological exams and procedures.
- Escorts patients between exam rooms, physician offices, and treatment areas.
- Records patient data prior to each visit, including vital signs, height, weight, allergies, and medication changes.
- Processes, sends, and follows up on imaging, genetic testing, and miscellaneous orders.
- Obtains insurance prior authorization for medication and consult referrals.
- Prepares charts for upcoming patient appointments.
- Obtains all necessary patient records as required by the physician.
- Prepares and stocks exam/treatment rooms and orders supplies as needed.
- Administers subcutaneous and intramuscular injections per RN or physician delegation.
- Maintains exam/treatment room disinfection protocols.
- Greets patients and answers telephone calls for referrals to physician or nurse/pharmacist.
- Processes prescriptions and makes other patient calls as directed by physicians and RN.
- Notifies physicians of patient reschedules and no‑shows.
- Performs additional administrative duties (typing, filing, faxing, chart preparation, reception) as requested by supervisor.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- 1–3 years of related experience.
- Experience with prescription refill protocols in clinic or hospital setting strongly preferred.
- Certificate of graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program or NCMA certification preferred.
- Current BCLS certification required within three months of hire.
Physical Demands
Requires full body motion, including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and eye‑hand coordination. Must stand and walk for extended periods; occasionally lift/carry items up to 40 lbs. Corrected vision and hearing to normal range required.
Work Environment
Typical of oncology/hematology clinic: exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, and medical preparations. Reasonable accommodations available for individuals with disabilities.
