Job Summary

Under indirect supervision, performs diagnostic ultrasound examinations and produces ultrasonic recordings of internal organs. The images are used by physicians to diagnose disease processes and delineate both normal and abnormal human anatomy, including obstetrics examinations such as nuchal translucency, fetal biometry, cardiac activity, and fetal echocardiogram. May perform other duties as required.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Maintains professional behavior toward patients, coworkers, and creates a positive departmental image.
  • Identifies the impact of cultural diversity and accommodates differences in patient care.
  • Demonstrates understanding of the cognitive, physical, emotional, and chronological maturation process in delivery of services to patients of all ages.
  • Schedules patient appointments by telephone, mail, or in person using KP Health Connect.
  • Prepares patients for examinations, explains procedures, and allays apprehensions.
  • Consults with referring physicians regarding patient medical history to determine the appropriate ultrasonic procedure.
  • Operates diagnostic ultrasound equipment (real‑time and mobile) to obtain high‑quality diagnostic images.
  • Keys test data and patient information into the ultrasound equipment computer to record test results.
  • Photographs images of organs shown on the display module and selects transducer and adjusts equipment controls according to organ of interest.
  • Processes imaging data, prepares images for interpretation, and discusses results with physicians.
  • Utilizes ancillary devices such as selective transducers and monitors to scan areas/regions of interest using B‑mode, M‑mode, and real‑time techniques.
  • Documents clinical activity in a timely, comprehensive, and accurate manner.
  • Observes all applicable regional, medical center, and department policies and procedures.
  • Maintains standards of professional behavior and demonstrates effective communication skills.

Licenses, Certifications & Registrations
  • Nuchal Translucency Certification Certificate
  • Basic Life Support
  • Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer Certificate from American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers
  • Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer Certificate – OB‑GYN from American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers
Additional Requirements
  • Demonstrate knowledge and application of the principles, theories, practices, and techniques of diagnostic medical sonography.
  • Operate ultrasound equipment to produce images, recognize normal and pathological conditions, and differentiate disease processes and artifacts.
  • Consistently demonstrate the knowledge, skills, abilities, and behaviors necessary to provide superior and culturally sensitive service to patients, members, and vendors.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Minimum of 2 years clinical experience as a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer in an acute care medical center.
  • OB experience required.
  • Experience in cardiac scan and Level II required.

This is an on‑call position; days and hours may vary.
