* Job Summary:

** The Prevention Specialist is responsible for providing technical assistance and support to community coalitions in order to prevent substance use in their communities. They act as the main point of contact for coalition members, provide information about prevention programs and resources, offer training and assistance, and ensure that services are accessible to all populations. The Prevention Specialist also assists in conducting needs assessments and contributes to the development and implementation of strategic work plans.

* Essential Job Functions:

*** Serve as the primary contact for community-based coalitions, teams, and task forces in the assigned area.
* Provide information and resources on substance use prevention to the coalitions.
* Offer technical assistance and training to enhance the coalitions' prevention efforts.
* Respond to requests for prevention services and information throughout the geographic area.
* Assist in conducting community and coalition needs assessments.
* Contribute to the development and implementation of strategic work plans.
* Participate in state-wide prevention training and resource network.
* Prepare and submit progress reports, billing reports, and data sets as required.
* Assist in the development of annual reports and quality improvement indicators.
* Support the Merchant Education Campaign and attend conferences and in-services as required.
* Demonstrate commitment to company goals and objectives.
* Perform other duties as assigned.
** Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
*** Knowledge of program policies, procedures, and regulations.
* Ability to develop, coordinate, and evaluate services within assigned program responsibilities.
* Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
* Ability to establish effective relationships with clients and stakeholders.
* Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
** Experience and Education

Qualifications:

*** Master's degree in social work, counseling, public health, education, psychology, community development, public administration or a related field; OR
* Bachelor's degree in a related field with at least one year of professional experience in a social service agency; OR
* Associate's degree in a related field with at least two years of professional experience in a social service agency.
* Missouri Substance Abuse Prevention Associate (MSAPA) credential required within six months of hire for 75% FTE Staff.
* Substance Abuse Prevention Specialist Training (SAPST) attendance required within nine months of hire for 75% FTE Staff.

* * Employment Requirements:
*** Successful completion of background check including criminal record, driving record, abuse/neglect and fingerprint check.
* Completion of New Hire Orientation at the beginning of employment.
* All training requirements including Relias at the beginning of employment and annually thereafter.
* Current driver’s license, acceptable driving record and current auto insurance.

* Physical Requirements:

** ADA Consideration - Sedentary work:  Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally (exists up the 1/3 of the time) and/or a negligible amount of force frequently (exists 1/3 to 2/3 of the time) to lift, carry, push, or pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body.  Repetitive movements of hands, fingers, and arms for typing and/or writing during work shift.

Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time.  Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally, and all other sedentary criteria are met.
