Position: Hemophilia Physical Therapist. >>>
Location: Louisiana

The Louisiana Center for Bleeding & Clotting Disorders (LCBCD) full‑time Hemophilia Physical Therapist is responsible for providing physical therapy services for the patients of the Center, both pediatric and adult, including clinical care, research participation, outreach, and education. This position involves seeing patients at the LCBCD Lakeside clinic, UMC New Orleans clinic, and outreach clinics located throughout the state (currently Lafayette and Alexandria).

This position also includes providing physical therapy services and education at summer camp, patient retreats, and community events. The primary clinical responsibilities will include: administering treatment modalities, joint injection duties, using ultrasound as a diagnostic tool, restoring range of motion, ensuring patient quality‑of‑life and activities of daily living, gait and mobility, pre‑op and post‑op therapy, telephone consultation and community education.

Ability to work with a diverse patient population and ability to manage patients with different cultures and personality types is a must and travel to outreach clinics and trainings will be required. The full‑time physical therapist will be an integral member of the LCBCD comprehensive interdisciplinary team.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Working knowledge of working with patients with chronic health conditions, both pediatric and adult.
  • Strong computer skills including the ability to work with a variety of applications.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work under moderate to high measures of stress.
  • Ability to problem‑solve, use good judgement, and work with diverse populations.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize with minimum direction and maintain a well‑organized work environment.
  • Ability to search and critically review best evidence to guide clinical decision making and effectively share knowledge with colleagues and patient population.
  • Ability to recognize the needs or deficiencies of existing procedures/systems and to develop and recommend solutions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues and patients.
  • Willingness to learn ultrasound technology and joint injection processes.
  • Ability to quickly learn and easily adapt to new technologies.
  • Ability to multitask and remain focused while managing a high‑volume, time‑sensitive workload.
  • Ability to function effectively in a fast‑paced, changing environment with multiple priorities and with a large multi‑disciplinary team.
  • Proven project management ability effectively carrying out detailed written and oral instructions.
  • Excellent customer service skills with effective oral and written communication skills and ability to establish collaborative working relationships.
  • Ability to prioritize projects in order to meet timelines and effectively report to management on progress.
  • Ability to work independently unsupervised for long periods and manage time well.
  • Ability to communicate with multiple managers and keep them abreast of progress.
  • Self‑motivated individual with good organizational and communications skills.
  • Ability to work with diverse population.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in all work performed.
Required

Education and/or Experience
  • Licensed Physical Therapist holding a valid Louisiana license.
  • A minimum of 5 years direct clinical patient care experience and current CPR/First Aid certification.
  • Must be knowledgeable and experienced in the treatment of musculoskeletal complications and have good organizational, communication, and teaching skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience working with benign hematology, bleeding and clotting disorder patients.
  • Doctor of Physical Therapy or Doctor of Physiotherapy degree.
  • Experience with electronic medical record documentation (Epic & eCW preferred).
Compensation Information

This position is classified as "non‑exempt, hourly" and is assigned to pay grade 27.
