Job Description And Duties

All applicants will be considered, however SROA/Surplus candidates will be given priority.

Position located in Glendale or Riverside.

Under the general supervision of the Supervising Tax Auditor (STA) II, the Business Taxes Specialist (BTS) I independently conducts the most complex audits, typically involving multi-level operations and retail locations. The BTS I independently conducts fraud/tax evasion audits and may testify in court to liabilities determined. The BTS I makes audit appointments; meets with taxpayers and their representatives; explains audit findings;

prepares audit reports and written correspondence to taxpayers; conducts data analysis for the Cannabis and Sales Suppression Section (CSSS); and performs other related duties as necessary. This position may be required to rotate into the audit review position.

The position requires the incumbent to travel at least fifty percent (50%) of the time, including overnight travel.

This position is designated as a mobile worker position and will require an incumbent to spend the majority of their time (fifty percent or more) working at various locations other than their home or office in a single day.

Under Government Code 14200, this position may be eligible for partial telework for eligible candidates residing in California. All telework/hybrid schedules require staff to report to the office a minimum number of days per week. Schedules are subject to change.

Currently, per the California Budget Act of 2025, all California Department of Tax and Fee Administration salaries are subject to the provisions of the State of California’s Personal Leave Program.
