The California Specialized Training Institute (CSTI) operates year-round from our main campus in San Luis Obispo and training sites across the state. We deliver over 100 specialized courses covering emergency management, officer safety, terrorism response, hazardous materials, disaster recovery, and crisis communications—equipping first responders and emergency personnel with the skills they need when every second counts.

You'll be on the front lines of emergency preparedness training, shaping how California responds to disasters. Working under the Senior Emergency Management Coordinator, you'll design cutting-edge training programs that align with national standards and Department of Homeland Security guidelines. You'll teach all-hazards courses, mentor junior instructors, and oversee contract instructors to ensure training excellence across the board.

Beyond your instructional responsibilities, you'll research, develop and update course curriculum, and evaluate outreach programs statewide. Expect to travel throughout California to various training centers—occasionally including weekends and holidays—as you bring critical knowledge to communities that need it most.

In Office:
This position supports and manages the day-to-day business operations for Cal OES which is handled in an office location. This is not considered a hybrid telework position.

DMV Pull Program:
Participation in the DMV Pull Program is required. The position(s) require(s) a valid Driver’s License (DL). You must answer the questions addressing your DL on your application. Ensure you provide your DL number, class, expiration date, and any endorsements and/or restrictions.

Conflict of Interest (COI):
This position is designated under the Conflict of Interest Code and is required to complete Form 700 within 30 days of appointment. Failure to comply with the Conflict of Interest Code requirements may void the appointment.
