-XXX | Salary: $4,102.00 – $6,121.00 per Month (Classification A: $4,102.00–$5,332.00, B: $4,662.00–$6,121.00). New to State candidates may be hired at the minimum salary of the classification or alternate range.

Responsibilities
  • Perform routine inspections on commercial vehicles to determine compliance with weight, size, registration, safety, and equipment requirements.
  • Inspect and test all types of commercial vehicle brake systems for compliance with the vehicle code and other applicable laws and regulations.
  • When required, refer violators to an enforcement officer for action.
  • Perform duties associated with North American Standard inspections (NAS), approximately 80% of the time.
  • Allocate roughly 20% of time to supporting NAS inspection activities such as answering phones/questions, cleaning inspection lanes, and assisting other staff members.
  • Work outdoors 50% or more of the work day.
Minimum Requirements
  • Jurisdiction-limited to the classification: COMMERCIAL VEHICLE INSPECTION SPECIALIST.
  • Additional requirements are listed in the Class Specification.
  • The position requires a drug screening, background investigation, and medical clearance prior to hiring.
Working Conditions

Facility operational 18 hours a day, 5 days a week. CVIS assigned to one of three shifts, 5 days per week.

  • Individuals currently in the classification, eligible for lateral transfer, eligible for reinstatement, have LIST or LEAP eligibility, are in the process of obtaining LIST eligibility, or have SROA and/or Surplus eligibility (please attach your letter, if available).
  • SROA and Surplus candidates are given priority; therefore, individuals with other eligibility may be considered if no SROA or Surplus candidates apply.
  • Individuals who are eligible for a Training and Development assignment may also be considered for this position(s).
