The Louisiana Office of Juvenile Justice (OJJ) is committed to protecting the public by providing safe and effective individualized services to youth, helping them become productive, law‑abiding citizens. We are seeking compassionate, committed, and resilient individuals to serve as Juvenile Justice Specialists at levels 1, 2, or 3 depending on qualifications and experience. These frontline professionals play a vital role in supervising youth in secure care facilities, promoting rehabilitation, and ensuring a safe and structured environment.

- Possession of a high school diploma or GED; OR
- One year of experience in any field.
- Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.
- Applicants who have been convicted of a felony, are under indictment on a felony charge, or have a history of sexual misconduct will be disqualified until clearance is obtained.
- All applicants must be willing to accept a drug screening test, possess a valid Louisiana Driver’s License, and clear a background check.
- Applicants must authorize the HR Office of Juvenile Justice to contact prior employers to check references under the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) to be considered for employment.
- The incumbent of this position must not have been convicted or pled nolo contendere to a crime listed in R.S. 15.587.1(c).
- Serve the Tactical Response Unit in the northern region of the state.
Responsibilities include:- Receive on‑the‑job training in various areas of the unit by security and treatment personnel.
- Maintain locked doors and gates as per facility policy.
- Enforce facility policies in the control and prevention of contraband on grounds (this includes youth, employees, and visitors).
- Monitor youth movement and provide youth count as per facility policy.
- Make security checks of buildings, grounds, fences, doors and gates to ensure the integrity of security; report problems or deficiencies to proper authority.
- Follow procedures for searching youth, living quarters, etc. to control contraband.
- Maintain security and follow instructions in handling emergency situations such as riots, fire, etc.; maintain a calm level of functioning that does not induce panic among youth or employees.
- Institute security measures when escorting youth inside and outside the facility.
- Work Location: Swanson Center for Youth in Columbia, Louisiana.
- Appointment Type: Full‑time. Probational, Promotional, or Job Appointment.
- Career Progression: This position may be filled as a Juvenile Justice Specialist 1, 2, or 3.
- Compensation:
- Juvenile Justice Specialist 1 (PS‑105) – Special Entrance Rate: $1,400.00 biweekly.
- Juvenile Justice Specialist 2 (PS‑106) – Special Entrance Rate: $1,504.00 biweekly.
- Juvenile Justice Specialist 3 (PS‑108) – Special Entrance Rate: $1,608.80 biweekly.
