Financial Manager
Role: Corporate Controller
Location: Huntington Beach, CA
Compensation: $140,000 – $175,000 / year
Reports To: Chief Financial Officer
Company OverviewA well-established, privately held manufacturing company with over 50 years of industry experience is seeking a Corporate Controller to lead its accounting and financial operations. The organization has built a strong reputation for quality products and operational excellence and is looking for a finance leader who can support continued growth through strong financial management and strategic insight.
The Controller will oversee the accounting function, manage a professional accounting team, and partner closely with executive leadership to deliver accurate financial reporting, operational insights, and strong internal controls.
Position SummaryThe Corporate Controller is responsible for maintaining the company’s fiscal records and ensuring all financial transactions are recorded and reported in accordance with GAAP and sound financial practices
. This role oversees day-to-day accounting operations while also contributing to financial planning, cost analysis, and strategic financial decision-making
.
The ideal candidate will bring manufacturing experience, strong leadership skills, and deep knowledge of the full finance function
, including financial reporting, cost accounting, audit management, and financial analysis.
- Direct all aspects of accounting operations including general ledger, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and financial reporting
- Oversee preparation and review of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
- Ensure accounting records are maintained in accordance with GAAP
- Develop and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and financial reporting processes
- Maintain a strong system of internal controls and financial governance
- Lead annual budgeting and financial forecasting processes
- Perform profitability analysis by product line
- Prepare financial projections and strategic financial models
- Conduct actual vs. budget variance analysis and present findings to executive leadership
- Provide financial insights to support operational and strategic decision-making
- Lead and develop the accounting team including AR, AP, senior accounting, cost accounting, and finance staff
- Establish priorities and operational strategy for the finance team’s day-to-day activities
- Provide financial training and guidance to team members
- Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement
- Serve as primary point of contact for external auditors and support the annual financial audit process
- Coordinate with tax advisors and CPA firms on tax compliance and reporting matters
- Oversee bank covenant compliance and financial reporting to lenders
- Participate in insurance renewal negotiations and financial risk management initiatives
- Identify and implement process improvements and operational efficiencies
- Support financial systems maintenance, upgrades, and enhancements
- Assist with internal control compliance including SOX-related procedures
- Minimum 5+ years of accounting experience within a manufacturing environment
- Minimum 4 years of experience managing professional accounting staff
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting
- Experience overseeing the full accounting function
- Experience managing external audits
- Strong financial analysis and cost accounting exposure
- Advanced Excel skills including pivot tables and financial modeling
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Experience with ERP systems within manufacturing environments
- Experience with Epicor or similar ERP platforms
- Background in cost accounting or product margin analysis
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Executive presence with the ability to communicate financial insights clearly to leadership
- Ability to translate complex financial data into clear business insights
- Strong organizational and project management skills
- Collaborative leadership style with the ability to motivate and mentor teams
