Director, Portfolio Management - Real Estate Credit

Macdonald & Company is partnered with a well-capitalized real estate credit platform seeking a Director, Portfolio Management to join its Orange County-based team.

This role will focus on the active oversight and management of a diversified real estate credit portfolio, working closely with internal investment, underwriting, and analytics teams to drive performance, manage risk, and execute business plans across the life of each investment.

• Portfolio-level management of real estate credit investments across a range of structures, including senior loans, mezzanine, and structured credit positions
• Ongoing monitoring of borrower performance, collateral, and compliance with loan terms
• Regular credit reviews, risk assessments, and performance reporting to senior leadership
• Oversight of construction and reserve draw activity and coordination with internal and external parties
• Review and interpretation of loan documentation, covenants, and maturity profiles
• Analysis of property-level financials, asset valuations, rent rolls, and cash flow metrics
• Active management of investment business plans with a forward-looking, risk-aware mindset
• Engagement with borrowers, lenders, and servicers to address issues and drive outcomes
• Exposure to special servicing, restructurings, and workout situations as needed

• 7-10+ years of experience in real estate credit, portfolio management, or debt asset management
• Strong understanding of commercial real estate lending and structured credit
• Experience managing loans through construction, stabilization, and transitional phases
• Ability to operate hands-on in a lean, execution-focused environment
• Strong credit judgment, attention to detail, and proactive problem-solving approach
• Equity-side experience is acceptable provided there is meaningful credit exposure
