Job Description And DutiesAll applicants will be considered, however SROA/Surplus candidates will be given priority.
Positions may be located statewide or in one of the out-of-state locations (Western State/Sacramento, Chicago, New York or Houston) based on the location of the selected candidate.
The Business Taxes Specialist (BTS) II operates under the general supervision of the Supervising Tax Auditor (STA) II within the California Department of Tax and Fee Administration (CDTFA). This role involves handling the most complex and challenging audit reports and field billing orders, primarily involving large, global entities. The BTS II provides technical guidance and leadership to audit staff, especially in emerging industries and controversial or precedent-setting issues.
The position requires collaboration with various internal units, including technical advisors, the Data Analysis Section, and the Field Operations Division (FOD) Deputy Director’s office, to enhance audit effectiveness and efficiency. Key responsibilities include reviewing and processing complex audit reports, ensuring audit postings are accurate, and conducting high-level evaluations of audit review procedures. The BTS II also leads and supports training initiatives, recommends process improvements, and identifies training needs to support program goals.
Additionally, the role involves developing and presenting audit review metrics to senior management, supervisors, and staff, and leading or contributing to special projects. Travel may be required up to ten percent (10%) and may include overnight.
Under Government Code 14200, this position may be eligible for partial telework for eligible candidates residing in California. All telework/hybrid schedules require staff to report to the office a minimum number of days per week. Schedules are subject to change.
Currently, per the California Budget Act of 2025, all California Department of Tax and Fee Administration salaries are subject to the provisions of the State of California’s Personal Leave Program.
