Controller Consultant

Our client, a growing real estate development firm, is seeking a seasoned Controller Consultant to support accounting operations during a critical transition period. This role will lead the monthly close process across multiple entities, manage complex developer-led financial structures, and assist with the integration of a recent acquisition. This is a high-impact opportunity for a hands-on accounting professional with deep real estate expertise who thrives in fast-paced, evolving environments.

Duration: 6-12 months

Location: Remote

Compensation: $80 – $100/hour

• Manage the monthly close process for a portfolio of entities, including the primary development entity and several GP partnerships
• Perform monthly bank reconciliations, process wires, and execute balance sheet clean-up activities
• Collaborate with outsourced accounting providers to prepare for audits and maintain financial accuracy
• Support integration efforts related to a newly acquired property management company, including systems and process alignment
• Assist with long-term finance operations, including preparation for an upcoming ERP system transition

• 5–10+ years of real estate accounting experience, with a strong focus on developer-side financial structures
• Solid understanding of GP partnerships, waterfall distributions, deferred developer fees, and due-to/due-from accounting
• Demonstrated ability to manage close, reconciliations, audit readiness, and wire processing
• Comfortable operating in lean, dynamic environments with limited formal processes
• Experience with Yardi or other real estate ERP platforms is a plus
• CPA and/or public accounting background preferred, but not required
