Location: California

The Controller serves as the senior financial officer, reporting directly to the General Manager. This role is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the club's financial operations, including accounting, budgeting, auditing, and financial reporting. The position also manages select human resources and benefits functions, ensuring regulatory compliance and fiscal responsibility across all departments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise daily accounting functions and internal controls.
  • Authorize payroll, manage cash disbursements, and ensure accurate financial recordkeeping.
  • Guide department heads on budgeting, spending, and financial reporting.
  • Oversee preparation of financial statements, dashboards, and performance reports.
  • Develop and manage the annual operating and capital budgets in collaboration with department heads.
  • Conduct internal audits and coordinate with external auditors.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal financial and employment regulations.
  • Supervise billing, collections, and vendor credit approvals.
  • Oversee human resources functions related to retirement plans and employee benefits.
  • Represent senior leadership in the absence of the General Manager.
  • Participate in strategic planning and cross-departmental management initiatives.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP, financial reporting, internal controls, and budgeting in a hospitality or club setting.
  • Proficiency with accounting software, Microsoft Excel, and financial modeling.
  • Familiarity with payroll systems, employee benefit administration, and HR compliance.
  • Capable of interpreting and applying regulations, technical standards, and industry best practices.
  • High level of integrity and ability to handle confidential information.
  • Effective communicator with analytical and decision-making skills.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration (required).
  • 5–7 years of accounting experience, including 2+ years in a Controller or senior finance role within a hospitality or private club environment.
  • Experience managing a finance/accounting team.
