Department of Health Care Services (DHCS). Classification: AUDITOR I. Salary: $4,256.00 - $5,600.00 per Month (Automatic HAM $4,470). Final Filing Date: 1/20/2026.

Job Description

About This Role:

The Auditor I in the Audits & Investigations (A&I), Financial Review Inpatient Division (FRID) assists with compliance, financial and/or management audits. These audits include in‑house desk audits and field audits, generally in acute care or long‑term care program areas, and may include public health or rural health clinic program areas. FRID conducts financial and compliance reviews and audits of Medi‑CaL and other DHCS programs’ inpatient providers (acute hospitals and long‑term care facilities).

These reviews verify that payments to providers and their reported costs are valid, accurate and compliant with governing laws, regulations, and program intent.

Responsibilities
  • Assist with compliance, financial and management audits of inpatient and other DHCS programs.
  • Conduct desk and field audit activities in acute care, long‑term care and health clinic settings.
  • Verify the validity, accuracy, and compliance of payments and reported costs.
  • Provide audited data to assist with provider rate‑setting purposes.
  • Maintain good rapport, attendance, and effective communication with the public and employees.
Minimum Requirements
  • Review the minimum qualifications listed in the Auditor I Class Specification.
  • Meet the education and experience prerequisites for Auditor I, Health Program Auditor II, or Health Program Auditor III as applicable.

Telework and Working Conditions
  • Eligible for up to three days of telework per week; required to report in‑person at least two days per week.
  • Travel required 15% of the time.
  • Position located in Richmond; reporting location may change as per DHCS telework program.
