Job Description

The Show Technical Manager is responsible for overseeing, monitoring, and expediting the design and development of show equipment, and/or show action equipment, components and systems under contract with vendor(s).

Responsibilities
  • Responsible for scope development, bid & award, monitoring, and progress of design fabrication and installation and testing, by vendor for each show element. Reviews and evaluates activities of vendor and its sub‑contractors on an ongoing basis with regard to product quality and compliance to specifications to ensure technical integrity and creative intent is met.
  • Manages in‑field installation, test and adjustment of show and ride systems to ensure compliance with contract specifications. Works with Facility & Construction team and contractors to ensure a clear line of communication regarding installation, test and adjust.
  • Provides oversight, field coordination, and direction for the installation of all show systems, equipment, and components as designated by Project Management Team. Primary Responsibility is Show Sets and Props. Other equipment may include, but not limited to, Show Action Equipment (SAE), Show Special Effects (SFX), Animated Figures (AF), Lighting Systems, Audio Systems, and Control Systems.
  • Manages the relevant show budget throughout design, fabrication and installation.
  • Manages the schedule of a given contracted scope of work, through project completion, identifying risks & opportunities, forecasting and communicating schedule impacts of decisions.
  • Manages and coordinates Vendor preliminary and final facility interfaces of show systems, equipment, and components.
  • Develops and/or manages detailed coordinated schedules for all work by vendor identifying and managing critical path and resource issues. Leads production status and schedules reviews ensuring coordination with Project Team and Facilities Team. Monitors all budgetary production expenses for assigned contracts for the attraction.
  • Advises, coordinates, and is accountable to the Technical Director regarding the status and engineering quality of Show & Ride control systems including areas of risk or potential future risks.
  • Manages the design and fabrication change process to accurately document contractual changes.
  • Oversees fabrication of mock‑up, prototype and sample programs for Show Set elements.
  • Validates that the facility interface is installed per plan, prior to Show Equipment installation.
  • Understands and actively participates in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established Universal Parks and Resorts policy, procedures, training and team member involvement activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Ability to travel and stay for extended periods in Chicago is required.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree from a four‑year college or university in Engineering, Project, or Industrial Management required or 4 years equivalent experience.
  • Proficiency in reading and understanding mechanical and architectural drawings and technical documents.
