OverviewThe City of Osage Beach is seeking a highly motivated, solution-oriented individual to assist the Public Works Engineering division. As a member of the Engineering team, the Engineering Intern will be part of a culture of innovation, initiative, and collaboration. During the development of the Sewer Master Plan, this position will give the opportunity to learn valuable industry experience and skills.
The Engineering Intern will aid the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Technician in matters of technical support, field data collection, and analysis and display of geographic data to staff, citizens, and other stakeholders. They will also support the broader pursuits of the Engineering division by completing tasks that include digitizing map and plat documents, structuring data files, and assisting personnel in the field.

Key Areas of InvolvementThe following examples are meant to be illustrative only and are not intended to be all-inclusive:
- Works with the GIS Technician to identify and create geospatial data, maps, applications, analyses, and reports
- Works with Utility Locator to ascertain location of infrastructure and confirm utility data accuracy
- Conducts field data collection
- Creates, updates, and maintains digital maps using ArcGIS Online
- Performs data modification and editing
- Creates and maintains public-facing interactive GIS web pages
- Assists other team members and users with GIS-related technologies
- Work alongside Public Works professionals both in office and out in the field
- Gain hands‑on experience with GIS software and tools while working with the GIS Technician
- Build skills in data collection, analysis, and visualization
- Explore a potential career in Municipal GIS
- Develop practical, real‑world skills
- Currently enrolled in or recently graduated (within 12 months) from a program related to GIS, engineering, utilities, construction, project management, etc.
- Experience with ESRI software (ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, etc.)
- Understanding of basic cartography (scale, projections, spatial relationships, symbolization)
- Strong Microsoft Office and general computer skills
- Effective communication skills
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
- Valid driver’s license
- GIS Certificate/training preferred
